5. When we share personal information
We do not treat customer or seller personal information as a product to sell. We may share relevant information when necessary for the following purposes.
5.1 Payment providers
We share information required to process or verify payments with payment service providers such as IntaSend. This may include the order amount, transaction reference and relevant customer or payment details.
Payment providers process information under their own applicable terms, privacy policies and legal obligations.
5.2 Sellers and customers
Because Cowa operates a multivendor marketplace, relevant order information may be shared with the seller responsible for fulfilling an order. This can include the customer’s name, contact details, delivery information and purchased items, where necessary.
Customers may receive seller or delivery contact information where reasonably necessary to complete an order or resolve a complaint.
Sellers must handle customer information lawfully and use it only for authorised marketplace purposes.
5.3 Website and service providers
We may share information with service providers that help us host, maintain, secure or operate the website, including hosting providers, technical support providers and relevant WordPress, WooCommerce or Dokan services.
Information may also be disclosed to professional advisers, payment dispute handlers, regulators, courts or law enforcement authorities where required or lawfully justified.
6. International data transfers
Some service providers may process or store information outside Kenya. Where personal information is transferred outside Kenya, Cowa will take the measures required by applicable data protection law, including appropriate safeguards where necessary.
You may contact us for further information about relevant data transfers and safeguards, subject to applicable legal and security restrictions.
7. Cookies and similar technologies
Cowa uses, or may use, cookies and similar technologies to support essential website functions, including account authentication, shopping cart operation, security and user preferences.
Depending on the plugins and services enabled, additional cookies may be used for analytics, embedded content or other functions.
You can manage cookies through your browser settings. Disabling certain cookies may affect login, checkout or other website features.
Where required by law, we will seek consent before using non-essential cookies or similar technologies.
8. Data retention
Cowa retains personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, subject to applicable legal requirements.
Order, payment, commission, refund and accounting records may need to be retained for legal, tax, fraud-prevention or dispute-resolution purposes.
Account information may be retained while an account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards where necessary to address outstanding transactions, legal claims or other lawful purposes.
When information is no longer required, we will take appropriate steps to delete it, anonymise it or otherwise dispose of it securely, subject to legal obligations and legitimate retention requirements.
9. How we protect personal information
Cowa takes reasonable technical and organisational measures intended to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration or disclosure.
Access to personal information should be limited to authorised people and service providers who need it for legitimate purposes.
